Summer is officially over and your final fall semester of high school is in full swing. Thereï ¿ ½s a lot of anticipation as you enter your last year of high school, and to put it lightly, you have a lot on your plate. Between keeping up with your coursework, extracurricular activities and preparing for college admissions, itï ¿ ½s easy to get overwhelmed. To help you organize all your tasks and college prep responsibilities, weï ¿ ½ve put together this fall semester guide for high school seniors. Finalize your list of colleges Based on your college visits during the summer, carve out some time to narrow down your top colleges and also a list of your ï ¿ ½safety netï ¿ ½ schools. During this time you may also continue to visit colleges. College application deadlines will be approaching quickly, so you want to seriously consider which schools you will be applying to. Outline important deadlines This semester in particular has a lot of moving parts. To ensure that you donï ¿ ½t miss any important details, create a calendar encompassing all college application due dates and reminders. For example important deadlines may inlcude: when to register for the SAT, when to take the SAT, when your college applications are due, a check-in date regarding your recommendation letters, and scholarship application due dates. RELATED: 8 things to know going into your freshman year of college Take and/or re-take standardized tests Fall is your last opportunity to take or retake any standardized tests such as SAT, ACT, or SAT subject tests. Both the SAT and ACT tests are administered in October, and you may have another opportunity to retake these tests in November, December, and lastly in January. Be sure to register on time to take any standardized test, and request either online or by mail that your test scores be sent to the colleges of your choice. Work on completing college applications If youï ¿ ½re planning to apply to any colleges as an early action candidate, youï ¿ ½ll want to use this time to dot your iï ¿ ½s and cross your tï ¿ ½s, since youï ¿ ½re only weeks away from your submission deadline. Be sure you have all items ï ¿ ½ test scores, recommendation letters, application essays and transcripts ready to go. A Gendered Tour through a Toy Store Question A visit to Macy’s toys section showed a clear division of the toys for boys and girls. The store had aisles well packed with toys. However, the majority of the aisles had boys’ toys on one side and the girls’ on the other side. Bluish characterized the boys’ toys while pinkish was the only color in the girls’ section. I noted that the distribution of the toys was equal in each section of every aisle with enough toys. The display was attractive, and the signage directed every customer shopping for the overtly gendered toys in the aisles. Blue and pink banners were in the boys’ and girls’ toy sections respectively. Only one aisle that had boxed games did not indicate gender. Question 2 The predominant toys on the girls’ section included dolls of different sizes, including the Bratz and Barbie dolls, doll strollers and cribs, doll clothing, miniature household items such as kitchen sets, typical girl jewelry boxes, nail kits, and makeup sets. On the other hand, the boys’ toy section comprised of action and sports figures, trucks, cars, construction models, a variety of different sized balls, computer games, golf sets, and guns. In fact, it was not until I figured out the arrangement of the aisles that I located the neutral toy in one of the shelves. It is worth noting that the layout makes it difficult for one to establish the location of the neutral toys. Hence, it was not easy to spot the gender-neutral toy. Analysis of Experience The experience at Macy’s showed that toys reinforce gender stereotypes. The toy play and selection offer a context for passing the gender roles to the children. Arguably, the toys teach the children their expectation regarding the gender-appropriate behavior. The gender specific tool serves as a critical tool that strengthens the stereotypical gender roles in children at a tender age (Emolu 6). In this regard, the treatment of boys and girls in a different way through the selection of toys enable them to learn the differences between men and women, according to the religious, cultural, and ethnic values of their society. The boys’ toys convey the message that aggressive behavior is suitable for boys in the society. For instance, the toys portray boys as rowdy, rough, and action-oriented. The toys impose the masculine role that encourages the boys to be assertive and active in violent tasks. On the other hand, the girls’ toys depict the girls’ role as nurt uring and cooking. The jewelry boxes and makeup sets indicate that beauty and glamor are crucial attributes, which girls should embrace, for social acceptance. The association of doll with caring and nurturing is evident in the choice of the girls’ toys. In this respect, the girls grow up knowing that they should be caregivers. The presence of the gender-neutral toys in the store indicates that it is possible to have equality in the society. Arguably, the neutral toys depict a possibility of a society that socializes boys and girls to practice shared responsibilities. In this respect, efforts should target ending the socially constructed ideas that impose binary gender roles on children. The marketing of the toys in a more gender-neutral way will enable the children to grow and embrace equality. Such marketing strategy will empower the children, as well as, the society. Some of the themes that are used in the play are ambition, guilt, things are not what they seem, and natural vs unnatural. Every theme used in the play is very important to the story. Ambition is one of the themes that is used in the play that are very important to the story. Most of the characters are shown to have ambition towards something at some point or another throughout Macbeth. In terms of world impact, no ideology has irreparably shaped the course of history like neoliberalism. Its core tenets of free markets would inform the policies imposed on developing nations. The assumption among particularly Western nations would be that developing nations would need to advance to become modern capitalistic societies just like them. However, the efforts to reach that ideal would lead to more harm than good. Neoliberalism has resulted in heavy debt for developing nations, unequitable free trade, and strong economic inequality in the global South. In light of these problems, one can utilize the solutions of debt alleviation, fair trade policies, and Keynesian policies to address these issues in a substantial way to mitigate†¦show more content†¦This would not be an issue if all nations were to start on the same playing field. However, it is some of the same developed nations that benefited from the oppression of indigenous people and races that are imposing t his ideal of development on developing nations. As such, these global institutions reinforce this narrative of the value of society being in its economic output and growth. In that respect, some developing nations in pursuit of those goals borrowed extensive money from the IMF that eventually resulted in heavy debt due to these countries not having sufficient resources to develop their economy. What makes it worse is that developing nations would then have to prioritize paying back their loans and not necessarily in developing their industries in the first place. In the seventies, neoliberalism rose to prominence in the global stage especially in America. Beforehand, Keynesian policies were the norm due to their success in taking the nation out of the Great Depression with Social Security and the likes. According to some research, Child maltreatment is a broad of spectrum of behaviors that are harmful not children, including physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, as well as neglect. Many of the children who are victims of maltreatment develop externalizing behaviors such as violent dating behaviors, low self-esteem, violent crime, and risky sex behavior amongst others. Jodi Arias claimed to have suffered these consequences by both her parents and by Travis Alexander. In her testimony she stated how her father was very intimidating to the point that there was no physical abuse needed. One of the many reasons that led to this disturbing murder might have been the anger she held towards Travis for leaving her. She might have felt rejected, abandoned, and cheated. I can’t name any strength within in Jodi’s family because she had suffered so much. How can a person be physically and mentally stable from their head if all they received was punishment? In fact, her own mother stated she might have gone through a split personality disorder and she gives examples of that, But Dr. Richard Samuels, the forensic psychologist that assessed her, he didn`t assess her with that. He determined that she did not have that split personality. One of her childhood friend mentions how it was like growing up with Jodi. She mentions Jodi was amazing. â€Å"She was a kind person. She was funny. Like, everybody knows she was a beautiful artist and photographer. She was athletic, actually. She`s extremely funny. And just everybody loved her. In fact, everybody just wanted to she was a great person. Everybody wanted to be Jodi`s friend. † Did Jodi change throughout the years or was she really experiencing a multiple personality disorder? As to Jodi, Travis would call her derogatory names and used her to fulfill his sexual fantasies and consider Jodi as his Dirty little secret. She stalked him, she went out of her way to know every type of contact he would had especially with another woman. Her jealousy issues were out of control since he moved on with another person. This completely set her off and might have triggered her to commit this heinous act of crime. A treatment plan should specify who, does what, when, where, how often, and under what conditions. We will never know what exactly triggered Jodi to do such a thing. There weren’t many evaluations done on Jodi’s behavior patterns or even patterns that indicate symptoms of a mental disorder. In order to come through and help Jodi, we would need as much information from her family and peers. Her behavior, her writing, her court testimony, has left a significant number of people with the impression that she is a liar. Putting as much information together will help narrow down the pieces to help Miss Jodi Arias come to a conclusion.
